My work addresses my lived experiences of discomfort in a disabled body navigating an ableist world. My paintings fragment visual space in ways that reflect my perception of reality and communicate my private experience. For me, every approach to the canvas is an opportunity to place my vision of the world before the eyes of an able-bodied spectator and join the chorus of artists with disabilities and celebrate the diversity of world views. I love painting and I use my rare and unique disease as an informant to my approaches to figuration and Abstraction and Portraiture. I embrace who I am and want to share my perspective with the able-bodied art world in order to feel seen and heard. I see this project as an opportunity to offer insight into the lived experience of deaf and disabled artists - correct misunderstandings, misconceptions, stereotypes and negative narratives around our bodies. As Yinka Shonibare notes; Disability Arts ‘is the last Avant Garde’(Sontag, Deborah. New York Times, “Headless Bodies From a Bottomless Imagination”, 2009).

Love the new artwork in my office and living room. It lifts us up everyday, acts as a conversation piece in Zoom calls, and we love the most being able to support artists in our communities as well.
